Abstract
To study the recently observed displacive reconstruction of the two-layer Fe film on Cu(001), a highly simplified tight-binding Hamiltonian is analyzed by the recursion method. In a narrow range of magnetization (probably ≳ per atom), the surface reconstruction is likely to develop.
